Position Summary
A Child Social Communication Interventionist is a direct service provider who is responsible for providing comprehensive assessment and intervention services to preschool-aged children who have limited language and who are diagnosed with autism. This position is part of a federally funded grant aimed at developing personalized sequences of interventions to maximize children’s nonverbal and spoken communication.
The Child Social Communication Interventionist will have the opportunity learn multiple cutting-edge social communication interventions as the project includes multiple approaches to teaching communication skills. The interventionist will be expected to deliver the interventions with high fidelity (with consistent access to clinical support and feedback from leading experts) with children with autism, collaborate with parents/caregivers and educators, and conduct assessments with the child.
The Child Social Communication Interventionist performs work in the field of speech therapy, early intervention, and prevention science that requires advanced knowledge, defined as work which is predominantly intellectual in character, and consistently exercises discretion and independent judgement. Service delivery will occur in a clinic space at the UO Portland campus, in children’s homes, or other community locations (e.g., children’s schools/daycares) depending on family preference. As such, the position may require local travel, in and around Portland, to visit participants’ homes.
